Welcome!

I've finally caved & decided to start blogging. I hope I can keep it up-to-date. I'm totally addicted to cross stitching
(I've been told it's an old lady hobby, I guess that means I'm an old lady!) so there will be a lot of cross stitching posts.
There will be pictures of the kids, both 2-legged & 4-legged, Chase, Carter, Baby Hank, Bullseye, Molly, & Baby.
I hope you enjoy reading, I promise to try not to bore you too much. Thanks for stopping by for a visit!

A Day of Finishing

As the saying goes, you must finish what you start.... so here is what I spent today making......
Keep in mind as you're looking at these finishes, I do NOT sew!!! :)
Dogs Leave Paw Prints on Your Heart by Lizzie Kate. I used a heart shaped piece of plastic canvas that I bought at Wal-Mart, a 6-pack for 99 cents, and covered it with this piece. Used some dog paw print ribbon & hung it where the dogs water bowl is.
It's A Boy Thing by Lizzie Kate. I did three out of the four of them. I used some interfacing on the back to make them a little more sturdy. I found the coordinating green, red, & blue fabric at JoAnn's. Using a little new sew bonding & a hot iron I made them into a banner of sorts.
A Cup of Sparklers by SanMan Originals. I did the same thing with this one, making it in to a banner. I'm not sure yet where I'm going to hang this one, probably in my kitchen?
Spring by Hob Nobb. This one I also made in to a banner. It is hanging on the back side of my front door. I have the other three seasons yet to stitch & finish. They will all be finished the same way & hung on the door.
My final & most proud finish is this long banner with my 2008 Lizzie Kate Double Living Flips. When I started these words I couldn't decide how I wanted to finish them, I knew I didn't want to frame them, I'm too cheap. :) So I decided to do them as individual words. Then it was the question of HOW fo finish them...... I finally decided to make a banner. Okay, so I don't sew, I couldn't find ribbon that I liked or that was wide enough, so that left me with a big delima. I found the fabric that I like, very neutral. I started by cutting the strip long enough with 6" at the top & bottom & enough for 1" between each word. Then used the interfacing to make it more sturdy. Used my no sew to hold the back together & make the angels & voila..... a banner. The BEST part- the words are velcro'd on so as I finish the Halloween & Christmas ones, I can switch them out for the holidays. I do have to say, not to toot my own horn, but it's not too bad for winging it!!!

Welcome To The Nuthouse Finish

I really wanted to frame this one & hang it on my backdoor, as we never use the front door. I had it in a nice white frame & then this spring I was going to add some acorns to the frame. But thanks to my lovely family, the frame will not stay hung on the door.... so I had to hang it with some ribbon instead.

Some Weekend Finishes

I was pretty busy today getting decorated for Christmas & finishing up some crafts!
Happy New Year, By Lizzie Kate.
I know, we just got past Thanksgiving & I just got decorated for Christmas....but if I don't get busy on stitching for January my tree will be naked!
Brrribbit framed. I used some sparkly snowflake buttons from Twig to add a little something to it.

I FINALLY got my dog shelf hung today. I only finished it over the summer, LOL, but it took me this long to get it hung!

Cans

I stitched these for me & my friend, Twig. I couldn't decide how to finish them..... then it came to me..... so here they are. I used Hank's empy formula cans.

Here is mine, sitting on my desk, holding all of my STUFF.

Snoopy Finish

It took me a while to figure out how to finish Snoopy. I couldn't find a can tall enough. Then I was at the end of my peanutbutter jar today & the lightbulb went off! Granted it was a little tougher because the top & bottom are rounded. But I made it work. I covered the entire jar in fabric first, it looks more pink in the picture, but the red matches the red in Snoopy's house. Then put Snoopy on the front, covering up the seams. I'm going to fill the jar with homemade dog treats.

Dog shelf

Here is my dog shelf. I bought it unfinished at Hobby Lobby. Spray painted it black, added some pre-painted die cuts (also from Hobby Lobby), & then added a few other doggy charms I had. I have a 5x7 picture of each kid that is already in a frame for the top of the shelf. Then I have 3 of the 4 ornaments stitched & finished for the pegs. I hope to have the 4th one finished this week so I can hang the shelf & take a final picture! This one was a lot of fun to make.

SAL- finished & hung!

I finally got matching ribbon to hang my SAL pieces. So here they are hanging from my plate rack with my 4-season plates. I like how they turned out. :)

Material

I stopped at Joann's today to look for some material for my "Welcome to the Nuthouse" piece that I am working on. I plan on trying out the tutorial I found for a no sew banner & hanging this on the door when you enter my house.

Here is what I found.

I really wanted something with nuts or squirrels on it, but of course there was none of that to be found. But I think this will work nicely. I also have some Heart In Hand patterns, from the Medley collection, that I am going to be working on next year. A family one & then one for seasons & holidays. I plan on making them in to banners & hanging them in my entry way. So I thought that this material would also work for those. Since all of the pieces will be in the hallway they will all coordinate. And someday down the road, I hope to to paint the hallway one of the brown's in this material.

My 1st Framing

First let me start by saying thank you to Wendy for the GREAT framing idea for SanMan Original's Toadally series. Thanks, Wendy, for letting me steal your idea. :)

Here is how my Toadally Summer turned out. I bought the frame at Michael's, unfinished. I painted it a neutral tan, added a frog to the bottom corner, and on the top corner is a flower pot. Each month I will change the top corner ornament.

In the small box next to the frame is where all of the small monthly ornaments are. They are attached by velcro. Another great idea from Wendy!

I thought that the toadally series was a great compliment to my ornament tree.
